Travel Information
Cromford is well served by all forms of transport and is a very popular destination for many visitors, particularly since it became the northern gateway to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site.
On popular holiday and sunny weekends there can be serious traffic congestion with visitors also passing through into the Peak District National Park.
We strongly encourage visitors to utilise the local train service on the Derwent Valley Line. This East Midlands Trains service operates hourly Monday to Saturday between Nottingham, Derby and Matlock and approximately every two hours on Sunday. Travel time to Cromford is 28 minutes from Derby and 60 minutes from Nottingham. Monday to Saturday most trains operate from Newark Castle station. The service passes through some beautiful countryside which the car driver might otherwise miss, and allows all passengers to arrive less tired.

Through ticketing is also possible in order to take advantage of two heritage railway projects. The Ecclesbourne Railway links to the train service at Duffield, and will take the visitor to our neighbouring small town of Wirksworth, while by staying on the service train to Matlock the visitor can alight and join the Peak Rail service to Rowsley.
Alternatively the Transpeak bus operates an hourly, daily, limited stop service between Derby, Belper, Cromford, Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton, with some services to/from Manchester. There are also several local bus services from Matlock, Alfreton, Ripley and Wirksworth. For bus times call 0871 200 22 33 or visit Bus Information

Cromford Station buildings are Grade II listed and the platform and grounds are currently maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers. This has resulted in the volunteer group winning conservation awards and the school being shortlisted in a national scheme for small art works for the paintings displayed on the platform and in the car park.
